The Asia Foundation, an international non-governmental organization committed to the development of a peaceful, prosperous, and open Asia-Pacific region, is seeking mid-level through Chief of Party-level consultants (both long-term and short-term) to provide technical assistance on an upcoming project focused on improving Legal Education in Indonesia.
Candidates should be development professionals with specific sectoral expertise, including but not limited to: building the capacity of institutions in the justice sector, improving the quality of legal education, training and curriculum development, legal education pedagogy, and policy research. Candidates must possess practical experience in developing and implementing rule of law programs, and must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between law and society, particularly how value systems, traditions, religious beliefs and social norms impact legal culture. Desirable skills include but are not limited to: knowledge and/or experience of the legal, political, economic, administrative and socio-cultural context of legal and institutional reform in Indonesia; academic background in legal education or justice sector related higher education; experience undertaking effective consultation with a wide range of national and international stakeholders; extensive field experience (preferably in Asia); familiarity with international donor program design principles and methods.
Qualifications
Applicants should be international development professionals with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience for mid-level positions and a minimum of 10 years relevant experience for Chief of Party-level positions. Applications should have a graduate degree and academic experience in the legal sector. Experience working with government and donor communities and an advanced degree in a relevant field are required. Essential skills include: Excellent written and spoken English, strong communication (both oral and written), consensus building, team facilitation, an emphasis on results and cultural sensitivity. Working ability in Bahasa Indonesia is strongly preferred. Experience or knowledge of South East Asia, particularly Indonesia, is strongly preferred.
